How to install your Hammocks
You cannot really fall out of a quality hammock, unless it has not been properly installed. That’s why the first thing to do, is to make sure your suspension is suitable. Not every tree or beam is safe and stable enough. Walls should not be too porous since the
embedding of the wall anchor must be solid and reliable.
How much Room is needed for classic Hammocks (without spreaders)?
You want to buy a hammock, but you don’t know how much room it needs? La Siesta can help you with their thumb rule:
- The distance (from tree to tree; wall to wall; wall to tree) should measure 90 p.c. of the total length of the hammock
- The height of the fixing point should measure at least 40 p.c. of the length of the hammock.
If you follow this thumb rule you will obtain the ideal angle and achieve the optimum of comfort!

If the right distance is nowhere to be found, you may have to fasten the ends of the hammock further up, possibly at the ceiling. This gives additional charm and allows sitting positions in your hammock.

If the optimal height is not available, you may have to tighten the hammock a little. This will, however, diminish the lying comfort. A taut hammock tends to strap you in and you will find it more difficult to lie diagonally.

How to install classic Hammocks (without spreaders)
For your maximum lying comfort La Siesta suggests the following steps:
- Measure the available distance (from tree to tree, wall to wall; wall to tree).
- Take two ropes to extend your hammock until the total length exceeds the distance by 20 p.c. (Ropes + hammock = distance x 1.20).
- Fasten your hammock to its fixing points, i.e. 45 p.c. of the distance (Height of fixing point = distance x 0.45).
Please bear in mind that the use may extend hammocks by up to 15 p.c.. It is quite possible that your hammock touches the ground when you first get in. In this case you shorten the rope(s). Make sure, however, that the hammock is not too taut and that the lowest point of a hammock in use should be between 20 and 40 cm above the ground.

How much Room is needed for a Hammock with Spreaders?
You want to buy a hammock, but you don’t know yet, how much room is necessary for a hammock with spreaders? There is a thumb rule that La Siesta has devised for you:
- The distance (from tree to tree; wall to wall; wall to tree) should measure 120 p.c. of the total length of the hammock
- The height of the fixing point should measure at least 25 p.c. of the length of the hammock.
If you keep to this thumb rule you will obtain the perfect angle and thus get maximum comfort.
